Licensing and activation

Activate your computer, manage your shared AWS and Azure allowance, and understand how license checks work.

Install IDs and licenses

An Install ID is an installation record in your website account. Associate it with an active license before using it to activate the app. Each Install ID can have one active computer.

Use the Installs page to create and manage these records. You can associate a license when editing an installation, or select an available Install ID when editing a license on the Licenses page.

The default allowance is five Install IDs per user, including inactive records and records without a license. Your account may have a different limit. Creating an Install ID does not purchase a license or activate a computer.

Activate this computer

  1. Make sure your Install ID is associated with an active license.
  2. Open the app's License page and choose Activate this computer.
  3. Sign in on the website in your browser, select your installation, check that the confirmation code matches the app, and approve activation.
  4. Return to the app's License page to check the activation status and account allowance.

Activation requires an internet connection. If an attempt is interrupted, use Retry activation to continue it or Cancel activation to start again.

Plans and shared cloud account allowances

Annual plans differ by the combined number of AWS accounts and Azure subscriptions you can connect. All application features are included. See plans and pricing for the available allowances and annual prices. Your License page shows the plan, account allowance and paid coverage end date for your installation.

Each distinct AWS account or Azure subscription uses one slot. Multiple roles, connections and regions for the same account or subscription share that slot. For example, a 3-account plan can cover two AWS accounts and one Azure subscription. AWS and Azure registrations are identified separately, so their IDs cannot be confused.

Saving a verified AWS or Azure connection registers its account or subscription against your installation’s allowance. The app’s License page lists both providers; choose Remove registration to release a slot. Removing a registration preserves its saved connections and snapshots. Register it again before collecting new snapshots: use Register account for a saved AWS connection, or Replace credentials → Save connection for a saved Azure connection. Adding or removing registrations requires an internet connection.

Account registrations remain associated with the installation when you replace a computer or renew the license. You can remove and re-add AWS accounts and Azure subscriptions within your allowance. If the allowance becomes smaller than the combined number of registrations, scans for both clouds pause until you remove enough registrations. Registrations are not removed automatically.

Move to another computer

On the website, open Installs, choose View details for the installation, and use Remove install and license from this computer. You can then activate the same installation on the replacement computer.

Your Install ID and purchased license are preserved. The old computer returns to sample mode at its next license check or when its offline access expires. Saved snapshots remain available to view and export. Activation on a new computer does not transfer your locally stored snapshots or other app data.

License checks and offline use

The app periodically checks its license online. The default schedule is daily for both new and established licences, and applies to both cloud workspaces. These are license validity checks, not subscription payments or annual renewals.

The License page shows Next scheduled check, Offline access valid until and Paid coverage ends. Use these dates to see when your installation needs to reconnect. You can also choose Check now.

A temporary connection failure does not immediately end an existing valid offline authorization. Once that authorization or your paid coverage expires, live AWS and Azure scans and new snapshot imports are unavailable until a valid license is confirmed. You can still create sample data and view or export existing snapshots.
